Under The Stars....Into The Light
A Celebration of Life

I walked around a track today.
I walked to help a disease go away.
I walked because there is a need.
I walked that bodies could be freed.
I walked for a husband or a wife.
I walked to help prolong a life.
I walked with my head held high.
I walked for one about to die.
I walked excitedly and demure.
I walked to help find a cure.
I walked for everyone to see.
I walked for you. I walked for me.

Our Elves made it through the Relay For Life. The wind caused us some grief and it rained just a bit. But, we had someone on the track the entire 12 hours, only had one grass fire to put out, didn't talk about work, and a good time was had by all. We were able to turn in $1,814.50 total for luminaries and sponsorships.

We didn't win any of the "official" prizes, but I've came up with some "unofficial" recognition:
Most fun had by child - Gavin Howard
Most fun had by adult - Ira Hudspeth
Kept their head best (when all about them were losing theirs) - Danny Jennings
Best protection of our camp area - Meredith Fugate
Most healthy walker - Deidre Howard (every time she ate something, she walked appropriate laps)
Brought the thing everyone found most wonderful - Jason (really neat foldup picnic table)
Brought the thing everyone found most useful - Judy Elliott (tent)
Best cook (and we sure needed one) - Terri Williams
Best Swing Dancer - Meredith Fugate
Best Two-stepper - Juanda Hudspeth
Most interested in seeing Elvis - D'Etta Nail (after she found out there were two Elvis' there, gave up and went on home)
P.S. Elvis did come and sing specifically to Juanda even though Jay was holding money over my head??? What does that tell you?
Stayed up the longest - tie between Rosie Jennings, Ira Hudspeth and Terri Williams - made it all the way through with nary a wink.
Best Harley Babe - Connie Hughes
Took the best picture - Barbara Parnell
Had the best picture taken (hopefully) - Dana Lewis
Walked the most laps - Donna and Tom Dunmire (total of 62 laps which we think is close to 10 or 12 miles - whew!!!)
Best walkers in the First Lap for Survivors - Connie Hughes and D'Etta Nail

A special thank you was needed for one mechanical engineer without which we would have never gotten our tent up :)

All elves deserve recognition for being good sports and for their enthusiasm.

THANKS GUYS!
